Is there a way to edit the beacon light where it flashes faster and more realistically. it seems like the lights have a little lag time. And is there a way to have the beacon & nav lights light up the ground (during night time)?

As far as I know, the rate of the blinking of the beacon is hard coded into the .MDL using the beacon_light xml coding.
As for the glow of the NAV and beacon lights on the ground, doesn't Shockwave (A2A) 3D Lights Redux do that?

The method used in the NGX an Airbus X, there are others, is a newer way of doing the lights in FSX. Lotus Simulations were the first to do it (in their L-39 Albatross) and were gracious enough to share it with the rest of the development community. Now everyone wants to do it that way. The only downside to this for me is that the landing/taxi lights can't be seen on the aircraft during the daylight hours (see picture below). I saw one add-on aircraft (I can't remember which one at the moment) that combined this new method with the old method so you could see the bright landing/taxi lights on the aircraft as well.

I think Captain Sim would need to add them to the exterior model using 3DS Max (or whatever program they use), then export it to MDL with the changes.

Thanks Mark for that useful information. Il look into Shockwave. Im just getting a little tired of seeing a 1 second interval of the beacon. That thing should be 1/2 a second!
