VasFMC and the 707

Gents,

I was wondering if anyone has tried using VasFMC with the 707. I've tried to get it to couple with the FD with no luck. Tried with NAV and HDG on the A/P, nothing. When I do try switching to NAV on the A/P, the plane will bank but never towards the course line in VasFMC (Wondering if I need to do some kind of align first).

Tried with and without the CIVA installed as well...

VasFMC WILL couple with the 727 and works great with it.

Any thoughts?

It could be that you are trying to navigate using VOR (NAV 1), so you might need to assign a keyboard command to Nav 1/GPS (toggle). I have mine set to CTRL+SHIFT+N.

I don't have the VasFMC, so try it and see if that fixes the issue.

Thanks for the reply Mark...

I think VasFMC just takes command of the heading bug from what you have entered in the FMC.

In the 727 all I have to do is set up my flight in VasFMC (just like a normal FMC programming) and then hit a "AP Couple" button on the FMC. At that point VasFMC will couple with the FD (HDG) and then you select NAV on the A/P and your off and running.

One thing I haven't tried yet is switching the INS/Doppler switch to INS mode. I'm wondering, if, for any external (3rd party) guidance system to take control of the HDG bug, you need to have that INS switch down.

I have been using VasFMC (1.1) for years and it works great with aircraft that dont have an FMC on board (freeware A/C and older payware A/C such as the CS727). It's VERY simple to operate (as a matter of fact it used to be called SimpleFMC), but has undergone some nice improvements since.

I will keep the NAV1/GPS thing in mind as well and try both that and the INS/Doppler switch.

Thanks!

Well, I'm happy to say, for anyone who is familar with it; VasFMC WILL work with the 707!

What I did was set up and aligned the CIVA-INS ONLY, without entering any waypoints, and then of course flip the INS/Doppler switch into the INS position. After I was in the air, I hit the A/P Couple switch in VasFMC, set the 707 FD to HDG and flipped the A/P switch NAV and voila! the HDG bug swung around to follow my plan in VasFMC.  Smiley
