Voice control for CS767 Demo now available
Jun 9th, 2011 at 5:17pm
Print Post
Hello everyone.

First a word to the mods…

I have sought and obtained Captain Sim’s (Tanya K.) permission to post this thread.

I am pleased to inform Captain Sim 767 & 757 captains that it is now possible to operate these beautiful birds in a multi-crew environment using voice control.

You know it can be tough to operate the heavies on your own. For example setting speed, heading and altitude on MCP panel can be a challenge when your hands are tied to the controls.

Enters Multi Crew Experience (MCE) an add-on that lets you do just that and many other things. Nothing is scripted. Need something to be done while your hands are full, simply speak it.

Since a fully working time limited Demo is available for download, all you would need is a headset with microphone to experience the thrill of voice control.

Demo available here: http://www.multicrewxp.com/

Should you need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the support team.

Regards,

Ian G. R
On behalf of the FS++ team

Hi, I downloaded this demo, but as I was setting it up during a flight, I messed up on something. I uninstalled it, but now I can't hear my "pilot's" default voice contacting the tower and approach, etc, nor can I see any conversation in the atc window thing. Could I have some help?

Hi Jake

Just click FSX menu Options->Settings->General

The general-Settings dialog will appear.

Tick the "Use a pilot voice" and "Show ATC text" boxes on the right.

That's because in addition to aircraft voice control, MCE allows you to speak to default ATC (and RC4 as well). For realism the Pilot voice has to be turned OFF. But as you can see, it's just a setting that can be adjusted via FSX dialog box. MCE does not modify any config file inside the FSX folder.

Cheers,

Ian

To all CS Captains

Back in June, MCE worked only with 767 base pack.

Since the latest update, it works with all 767 variants.

In addition, package now comes with 2 pre-recorded first officer voice sets.

Trial has been reset, and everyone can have ago.

I appreciate your announcement here, Ian.
I have known about this impressive application for a long time - however I really can't help laughing every time i listen to one of the demo videos. Do you by any chance have any plans on modifying that 1'st officers way of speaking?

That's the vital point, Morten.

I think they've recorded some real voices now, if I got that right. So it should give a way better voice experience than the computer voice in the videos which, on the sheer voice aspect, came in a bit monotonously.

Videos may be needed for products that don't have a Demo. They can be very deceptive. I mean you could edit out all the repeats, and make it look like you are talking to a real person.

As said before, trial has been reset, and you can try it out and make your mind up. If you need help, just get in touch with support, even if you don't intend to buy.

And yes, as CoolIP pointed out, we now have pre-recorded voice sets for all crew members.

Interesting CoolP! Gotta give it a try too!  Wink
Are there also new ATC voices/acts to it - or is only interaction with FO and crew..?

ATC and their voices come from FSX (or the addon in use), MCE just offers the interface interaction. But I haven't tried that feature as my ATC is online or totally silent when I just want to fly.

I think you folks will like MCE, that's where the trial comes in handy. You will also like the voices for the FO as they have nothing to do with the boring videos on the site. I've actually had to laugh more than once about my smart FO, telling me that my curse word on the approach was inappropriate behaviour for a Captain.  Grin

For the folks running a non English version of Windows, some preparation might be needed though.
But that's needed on all current voice titles for FSX, may this be FS2Crew, VoxATC or something else. They are all based on English voice recognition, which can be added for free (and legal!) to any Windows Vista/7 version. So be aware that this step may be the worst about that program.

English is the official international aviation language! Period!- regardless of whatever some Freshmen might claim! otherwise we would be falling down from the sky in a body because of misunderstandings!  Simmers must just learn to get use to that, sooner or later.
Nevertheless I badly need some change to the standard FS ATC voices!  Embarrassed

Pro Flight Emulator PFE is a button based ATC addon with really good voices if one goes for the extra voice pack. You will have local variations there. Here are some samples. http://secure.simmarket.com/another company-online-pro-flight-emulator-deluxe.phtml Note the samples are done very clear, but you can alter the radio interference sounds and things in the program.

But maybe some folks did a freeware to just exchange the voices in the default ATC.

Thanks for the link CoolP!
....just some rather funny examples there, AGAIN - as if taken out from a comedy show!
Strange that lots of developers, don't seem to care much about delivering a good impression - it should of course be handled as priority number one! The same paradox also goes for many scenery developers showing awful low-res screenshots!  Huh

I think they've just went the honest way, showing how it sounds like without any edits.

True on some presentation methods among devs in the business. I think it just shows that quite some are very good devs, but not so good on the PR. Unfortunately, you sometimes get the other possible combination, the one with a ton of PR and poor products.
I also saw scenery getting promoted with a ton of edited screenshots, planes too (not CS!). When looking at some videos, some companies edit extra raindrops, use a ton of bloom and so on. Sometimes the product is really good though and those edits actually harm it in my humble eyes.

Back to MCE. I think some current videos would help. However, as there is a trial version, everyone can test how good the new voices really are.
And on PFE. I think Youtube may offer some ingame videos. Unfortunately, it doesn't offer a trial.

Just a HU for you folks. Thanks to another HU at Avsim, the new feature of MCE shouldn't be missed. Seems like you can voice control not only your favourite planes but also the AES or GSX ground features.  Shocked

True, otherwise you can't talk to 'Roberto'. They've stressed the cliché voice appearance a bit on that one, but he sends you the passengers and catering trucks in a timely manner. So he's a professional indeed.

Is 'Roberto' pronounced with a French accent? I hope not, because I have an Aussie accent! Tongue

Haha, me says the thing is flexible enough to handle all sorts of folks.  Tongue  Grin

I think you can expect some Italian influence there. So make that first 'r' very long and give the 'o' an extra bunch of emphasis if you like. For instance, 'Roberto, we are now waiting for the passenger boarding' works and sends the folks to the plane. You don't have to use his name, he just introduces himself as Roberto. But you can also call him ramp coordinator or something.

The ground mechanic is another guy. So you call him and request starting the pushback. 'Ground from flight deck.' 'Ground mechanic please start pushback.' Or something like that.

The MCE software is less strict than e.g. FS2Crew, so you will have plenty of voice options for the same item. So far, the ground interaction with AES and GSX is a MCE only item though.

Acts as a HU. There now is a forum section over at Avsim to allow for questions and wishes. It's unofficial, but surely helpful I guess. http://forum.avsim.net/forum/548-the-multi-crew-experience-mce/
