LOC and APP landing with very intense waving

Print Post
Dear all,
I am using the 757 E. My problem is with automatic landing using LOC and APP.
Once the plane comes closer to the runway all the systems work normally but the plane is shaking and waving very actively (to keep the right direction and G/S) (set-up of FMC and/or loading of fuel has no impact). I do not think it is normal behaviour, the waving from one side to another is really very intense.
Is there any set-up which should be changes in aircraft.cfg or FS9 ?
Please, advice

many thanks
J

Check your airspeed and flap settings. I had this happen on approach as well once I dropped to flap 15 the AC smoothed out.

OK, many thanks. However, I tried several speeds and flaps set-up. Do you know if there is any possibility to set-up differenty sensitivity of AP or LOC/APP in Aircraft.cfg ?
many thanks

Hi J,

go to CDU index page, then select the approach page.
Chose one of the flap configurations shown and use speed indicated for this flap setting.

Werner

Werner,
many thanks for recommendation. I have there values like 30 flaps = 109 knots. This is very low speed. Is that possible or something other is wrong in may case ?

Hi Jan,

109 kts is defnitely WAY to low for a stable approach. My P**G Boeing 757-200 manual shows a minimum (!) maneuvering and landing reference speed at flaps 30 for a 757-200 with a landing weight of 160.000 lbs at 117 kts.

So did you load your 757 before using the load editor? I can only imagine that this speed may come close for a nearly empty 757 at a BOW of 114.600 lbs, no cargo and  v e r y  little fuel   Wink Anyway, I guess even then you would rather add a few extra knots just to be on the safe side of a stall.

Regards,
Werner

Werner,
many thanks.
Yes, i loaded and put also fuel there. The GW is around 140 000 lbs and as such put also to FMS.
However, it shouws so low values in recommended speed (approach pages).
If I have a speed higher (I tried several of them, ie. 180 or 190 or even 200) then the plane is waving very very intensively from one side to another during approach. So I d not know what else I could do wriong.
Many thanks
regards !

I can smooth out if I add around 20 kts to the vrefs (suggested by Cthulhus) or drop to flap 15 when the waving occurs prompting the gear warning sound! Just Go in fast and clean lol

More "info" about approach and landing (especially useful for L...S 767 pilots):

Hi Jan,

I nearly looked over it but there must be a mistake in your weight calculatiion.

Quote:

With an "empty weight" (BOW) of 115.000 lbs in FS2004 and an under average passenger/cargo load of 18.900 lbs, the ZFW is already at 133.900 lbs, so that would mean you loaded only about 6.000 lbs of fuel - you could take the bus instead  Cheesy (the 757 wouldn´t go far with that low fuel)

Now you said the GW (ZFW + trip fuel + alternate fuel + reserve fuel) is 140.000 lbs. So I guess you accidentally entered the correct numbers for the ZFW into the line for the Gross Weight (which is calculated automatically by the fmc once the ZFW is entered correctly). No wonder the poor FMC went havoc during the approach speed calculatiion  Smiley

Werner
