Title: H E L P !!!
Post by Pinatubo on Mar 12th, 2014 at 4:36am
Hi guys,

Two weeks ago I needed to change my old HDD who was working well for long 3.5 years, before it collapses. I had several known signs that something was wrong with it, so I decided to change the device before it stops working.

Well, the change was made without any kind of problem and I copied all my previous files to the new one.

But...I forgot to do one thing...Just a little detail. And now, after FS reinstall, it doesn't work. :'(

I explain.

I had a P**G MD-11 installed and I forgot to uninstall it, despite there is a warning, as follows:

"README_P**G (text document)

...UNINSTALL NOTES:
================
If you need to uninstall the P**G MD-11 or any other P**G product, please run this
installer again and select the REMOVE option.  Also, you can use the ADD/REMOVE
PROGRAMS item in your Windows Control Panel.

DO NOT MANUALLY DELETE FILES FROM YOUR MACHINE.  (we warned you!)..."

After FS reinstalling, it works but doesn't allow any configuration change and always crashes when I try to modify some configuration, showing the same message - "FATAL ERROR". :'(

I think my FS two DVDs are ok, because I think it is impossible to record any kind of information on the MSFS discs. So, I believe there is some kind of bug in my previous files due the incorrect MD-11 uninstall.

Does anyone know how fix it?

Thanks.

Sorry, but I've never had this problem, although I can think of numerous times that I should have.

I take it you can't do a repair by running the installer again and using a "repair" option?

In my Window 7 Control Panel\Programs and features, when I right click on PXXG_MD11_FSX, I get the option to Uninstall or Change, when I select Change, I get he installer window (don't know what else to call it) open with 3 options - Modify, Repair, and Remove. Try the repair from that.

Mark,

Thanks for your answer.

I did it several times (repair option), including installing and uninstalling FS and the add-on. No joy. :-/

I think the only solution to solve the problem is to format the new HDD, installing only W7, FSX and Kaspersky Internet Security, not copying any previous files, where must be a hidden bug due incorrect add-on uninstall, and giving a try to watch if FS is running well.

If so (I hope), I will install all others programs including MS Office 2010 and adding their important files who are stored in an external HD. Nothing more.

I'll keep my fingers crossed! ;)

Please tell me what do you think.

Thanks.

You could contact another company support at http://www.precisionmanuals.com/. Login and select contact us and submit a ticket explaing the problem. Avsim forums have been down for about a week so you can't even access the MD-11 subforum until who knows when.

Michael,

I'll give it a try, but I'm pretty sure they will answer that I was warned. In other words that was my fault and I must agree with them.

Anyway, thanks for your interest in helping me.

Best regards.

One would like to think that they would have the common sense to know that sometimes things happen regardless of warnings, and so they help you rather than chastise you. But.....

Formatting the drive will fix it.  My feelings are that file is writing to something in your registry and therefore interfering with FSX every time you attempt to install it.
I would go into the registry and removing anything from that company.
Then re-install FSX.

Only a guess so no guarantees.

Sorry guys, I know I'm late to report what happened after I ask your help, but I've been away for some time. Fortunately my FSX problem was solved. My old HDD was (and is) OK and now my FS is working fine again. It wasn't a hardware fault, the problem occurred during a W7 scheduled update. It wasn't necessary to format the HDD; just using a W7 repair tool. I'm a happy man again. ;D

Thank you all for the ideas to fix it.

Mark, I have another question.

As I said, I'm still using the old and good HDD Samsung 1TB (4 years in continuous use). The new one is a Western Digital (1TB) :-/ and is all ready to use (W7 and other programs installed), already inside the PC.

Would you suggest changing the old HDD by the new one?

Thanks.

Win7 (at least I believe it's Win7 and not my M/B drivers/software) is good for letting you know if the drive has a problem. I started getting a message in Win7 that a 1TB had a problem and could fail at any time, so I replaced it. But a few weeks ago, I had a HDD drive fail without warning! I think the heads got jammed at one end of the drive and couldn't move. I got a CLICK, CLICK, CLICK sound every time I powered up my computer. I lost a lot of data with that drive, but my most important stuff, my FSX Payware and other paid for software, were all backed up on another drive that is working fine.

So if you feel you want/need to replace it, then buy a new one. Seeing as you are worried about it, a new HDD will fix your worries, and if it was to fail in the not too distant future, you will regret not replacing it. If I am ever worried about a HDD, I simply replace it. ;)
