I think the problem is with FSX.

If I have my aircraft parked at a Gate, the airport lighting does not illuminate the exterior of the aircraft like it does in real life. I guess it is the way the lighting is done in FSX. The sun and the moon seem to be the only things that illuminate the exterior of the aircraft (unless Logo lights are).
