Title: Galley
Post by CanadianSim on Jan 10th, 2012 at 6:32pm
Hi everyone!

First of all, I want to say that I  bought the beautiful 707-300 few days ago and I am amazed since then.  I am new to this forum and I haven't found any Introduction post.

This being said, I've read the most important parts of the manual and I just can't find any information about this Galley Power button. What is it? It seems to me that it doesn't do anything.

Following this, how do you turn on the passenger cabin's lights? Does it have a link with the Galley power?

I hope I didn't missed a post answering these questions. If so, I apologize.

Thank you very much
Francis

Hi CanadianSim

Welcome to the Captain Sim forums.

As far as I know. The Galley Power provides power to the Galley, so the Flight Attendants have power for the ovens, urns/kettles and fridges so they can provide hot or cold drinks and hot food. In the 707, the switch is there and can be turned ON or OFF, but other than simulating power use, it doesn't really do anything at all.

I'm happy to be corrected if I am wrong.

Mark

MarkOz is correct on both counts, it does not do anything as there is no live galley model in the model.

In real life it enables the crew or F/E to isolate the galley (which has ovens and warmers etc operating) and therefore minimise the risk of fire and power loads during critical stages of flight. Galley could be on till take-off or beyond with no significant load, as no one does anything up back until cruise climb is established. If for some reason there is a malfunction or smoke or fire, galley power can be shut off from the flight deck. Happens from time to time. Galleys are wet areas and there is the ocasional short where wires get wet or rubbed. So hence the switch.

Aeroplanes I flew, galley power was off all the time until it was lunch or tea time, then on until food and drink was heated and served. Rest sat in big eskies, kept the stuff cooler if you kept the cabin temp right down which is controllable from the cabin like the galleys.

If my coffee is cold, it is because of one of two reasons. (1) I left in the kitchen for too long. (2) The FA (my wife) forgot to tell me she had made me a cup of coffee and this caused reason #1 to occur. :D ;D :D ;D :D

Yeah. I have to make sure she is out of the room, for my own safety, when viewing this Topic. ;D
