Title: The New 707!
Post by cubs fan on Aug 17th, 2010 at 5:43am
Hi all. I just purchased this bad boy. I was disappointed to find out, that after install, there was only one model and one livery (Pan Am).

Is Captain Sim going to make this right by releasing some more liveries very soon? It's unfortunate to pay $74.00 dollars and get only one plane.

The bugs I've noticed thus far are:
* No passenger window lighting effects while flying at night.
* Very limited panels. The only options on the simicon window are Wx radar, animations, and a very cheap map.
*Autopilot acts goofy, half of it works, half of it doesn't.

The positives I've seen:
*Great sound
*Very good VC
*Nice exterior in daylight only.

Thank you very much for the first row purchasing. We do appreciate this level of interest in out new product.

Yes of course. Please standby for the 707 site update (later today).

The issues you have mentioned above are not bugs but features. Manuals are coming soon.
For example, for independent control of  the passenger window lighting you need to use Shift+L.

Hi.

Here's my thoughts on the 707, so far.

Learning to fly this beautiful beast without having a manual to read is a real challenge, but I'm game. Take note of this: "We are updating the 707 web site: screenshots, product description and manuals will be availabe by Friday morning UTC."  before you start to panic about not having a manual. We soon will. In the mean time I'm trying to fly it in a similar fashion to the 727, I could be wrong, but the similar cockpit interior makes me think this way!

I had trouble with the A/P at first, but I got it working quite well in the end (after taking off from YMML and touring the state of Victoria before finally figuring out how to lock onto the FS Flight Plan to NZAA ;D). LOC and G/S capture I didn't figure out and so I had to land manually (I got way below the G/S when I was still a good 10nm from the runway threshold). I think some touch and goes are needed for me to see if I can figure it out.

The Animations panel is really good and I think it would be great if the entire CS fleet were to get theirs updated to this standard.

Unfortunately for cubs fan, I'm a flight sim VC man and don't really care for the 2D panels and I would rarely use them if they are there anyway, so I love the fact that there are only a couple.

The map is basic. But it shows a large amount of detail, much like what you find in the default FS GPS. I think it's quite good.

Liveries? Yes. Only the Pan Am livery, but I'm sure that we will get more in a future release. For now, we will have have to make do with Pan Am and any free ones that are made by others with the paintkit that is hopefully in the pipeline and not too far away. I found no mention of it, so perhaps that information will be out on Friday as well.

The 707-300 is of the typical high quality and standard that Captain Sim are known for.

Mark

EDIT: Some things I forgot to mention.

There are are two panel configuration files in the Panel folder. The default panel.cfg and CIVA_panel.cfg. So those who have the CIVA INS are catered for already!

I couldn't figure out how to start the engines. I can't find an APU, but external power and air is available, but I must be missing something.

And on the Flight Engineers station there is an image of two checklist pages that are very clear to read. I just haven't followed them yet. I just wanted to take off and fly so I was lazy.

OK. I'm off to see if I can work it all out now!

When will there be a boxed version?

I have bought and installed the 707 but will wait till I have a manual in front of me before I try and fly it.
I have to wonder if the plane had to get pushed out of the hanger without the manuals and liveries for some reason.

The manuals are available: http://www.captainsim.com/products/x707/manuals.html

As usual, we do not include the manuals in the pack, but leave them available as free downloads from the web site.

I've read that there will be 4x Textures. Do I understand correctly?, the 4x Textures has more Quality and Realism than the standard CS Textures. So they have the same Level of Macphat Textures?

I would like to know about the 4x VC, would we have to set textures to 4096?
If you guys have it, is it sharper, better than the 727/767 etc?

Title: Re: The New 707!
Post by Captain Sim on Aug 18th, 2010 at 2:49pm
The 4X textures are 2048x2048.
The size matters, but the art of the texture is the key difference.
Anyways, they are in four times higher resolution than 727/757/767.

Hello, I've two questions,

the first one,

1.Can I pay at the Download shop with an EC-Card or only with Credit card?

2.Will be the 707 Captain  1.1 a free update for 707 1.0 Captain customers?

I can't answer the first question. But the answer to the second question is YES. See here: http://www.captainsim.com/products/x707/300/index.html

McPhat UHDT have higher definition at 4096.  Captain Sim textures have the super high def at 2048.  Which brings up the question: do people need to changing their texture max load value in their config file to 2048 to fully appreciate the super high def textures?

Captain Sim's textures set a new standard for developers as they are.  If you want to appreciate them, zoom in on the engines and read the Pratt and Whitney logo :-)

Ive got a few minor problems with the 707:

- firebell wont silence after fire-test, the bell-silencer switch on the right side of the glareshield wont stopp the bell ringing
- both rear tires on the left main landing gear don't turn, anyone else got this? (might just be a problem after running the AES-configuration)
- the duct-overheat-reset button will illuminate the overheat lights just beside the button (I think it should extinguish them, but the pack o-heat lights do extinguish)
- the red LH-bottle inactive light on teh F/E-panel is burning all the time, and I dont know why?
- the blue cabin-attendant light one the overhead-panel is illuminated all the time, and I can't extinguish it

Hi.

I agree on all except the "the red LH-bottle inactive light on teh F/E-panel is burning all the time. Sometimes it is on and won't extinguish, other times it stays off for the entire flight "and I don't know why!"

On the overhead there is an Oxygen panel.  My PASS and PERS light up during the flight.. some sort of valve.  Any thoughts?

Dont worry, I'll re-check all those points and afterwards I'm going to create a ticket for each bug I've found.  ;)

Was just wondering if anyone else has got the same problems...

Title: Re: The New 707!
Post by TheFinn on Aug 26th, 2010 at 8:47am
Did another test-flight, and the list is getting longer:  ::)

- Both rear wheels on the left main landing gear dont turn (NOT an AES configuration problem)
- The firewarningbell-silencer on the glareshield dont work
- The ductoverheat-reset button on the upper F/E-panel illumiates the ductoverheat-lights right beside the button
- Elevator trim is too sensitive, and the trim-wheel moves too slow (should turn much faster and make more revolutions while trimming the elevator)
- The cabin pressurization-system doesn't work, and when turning the manual control the cabin-variometer moves even without having bleed-air to pressurize the cabin
- LH Bottle Inactive light on the F/E-panel illuminates after starting engine #3
- Essential Power works, even if the corresponding curcuit is closed, e.g. ESS PWR of GEN #2 should't work if the curcuit of GEN #2 is tripped
- Generator frequency calibration knobs dont work
- copilots flight director doesnt show up, on glide slope it moves around in the cockpit
- Flight director is connected to the autopilot, which is wrong and it makes the F/D controlunit uselsess. The autopilot and the flight director are two seperate systems which are not connected with each other.
- Transponder active-light doesnt work
- Annoying "Dont sink" on landing with 500ft/min sink rate
- Right/left clicking is tricky on some controls like the COMM/NAV
- The 707-300 didnt had HF-Antennas on the trailing edge of its wingtips

And now, I'm gonna make some tickets...  :D

Great work Finn

I always thought it would be nice to have the sound of the trim wheel working when on AP. No one so far has done that.

Post by TheFinn on Aug 26th, 2010 at 10:04am
Ok, I've made 12 tickets so far, and i just saw an update on the list for the next update:
- The 1000-Feet Pointer stops working once I reach 20,000 ft. on C01 Altimeter
- Doppler is not operating correctly
- Left main landing gear: кear two wheels don't move

I am glad you mentioned the wingtip HF antennas. That is an annoying visual error for the price tag.

EDIT 31.08.2010 16:00 UTC

Just a small update on the "bug-list":

On the list for the next update are:
# It would be nice to have 2D pop-up panel for autopilot.
# The 707-300 series didnt have extra (3rd) VHF blade antenna on the roof just in front of the vertical stabiliser.
# The RAT and SAT gauges only display 00.0 C and 0.0 Plus when SAT should be indicating around -35C at FL320. Should indicate ambient temp on ground and OAT at altitude.
# Can we have CIVA INS in VC?
# The flight director on the co-pilot side doesnt show up, and if on a glide slope, the pitch command bar is moving through the cockpit.
# The 1000-Feet Pointer stops working once I reach 20,000 ft. on C01 Altimeter.
# Doppler is not operating correctly.
# Left main landing gear: кear two wheels don't move.
# The 300-Series didn't have HF antennas on the tips on the trailing edge of the wings.
# Fire Alarm Bell Cutout Switch should silence the fire warning bell, but it does not.
# The blue cabin attendand call light on the overhead panel stays illumiated all the time, and cant be extinguished.
# Duct Overheat Reset Button on Air Conditioning panel when pressed should extinguish the duct overheat light next to the reset button.

Still open tickets are:
- Cabin pressurization system
- LH Bottle inactive light
- Frequency control knobs
- Flight-director should work with A/P off
- Transponder active light
- Elevator trim
- "Dont sink" message
- A/P disconnect light stays illuminated if you click on it (to extinguish) in the moment its illuminated
- Fuel low pressure lights dont come on if the fuel tank is empty, only when the pump is turned off
- Anti-Skid Test Switch doesnt work
- Ailerons on the right wing move in the wrong direction

Closed tickets are:
- Essential Power working, even with tripped curcuit. And thats because its according to 707 manuals. And I've checked it on the DF727, where you get ESS PWR too as soon as the GEN is turned on (even with tripped BUS and curcuit).
And in this case, the electric system (except from the freq. knobs) on the CS707 is working as it should.

Additional bugs???
Now, as I was reading through the forum, I saw some other bugs I havnt found so far. Are there any more bugs which have to be reported via the ticketing system?

Hi TheFinn
Again good work on the pickups.
I notice they have put an extra (3rd)VHF blade antenna on the roof just in front of the vertical stabiliser.
B707's generally only had 2 VHF systems fitted with #1 VHF antenna on top of the fuselage and #2 underneath (#2 antenna was commonly painted with high visibility candy stripes to prevent ground staff walking into them whilst ducking under the fuselage and also to prevent low ground equipment hitting them when in use )
Boeing introduced the #3 VHF system as standard on their 747's along with the trailing wingtip HF probe antennas.
Funny they got the above mentioned stuff right on their Legendary 707 version ?

Felks

This is a picture of N885PA, and it indeed doesnt have this 3rd antenna:

Yeah, but the new 707 has lots of features the old one didnt had. And if we do all our best to report such things, we will have a really great plane in the end! Just hope that Captain Sim continues its good work on the 707!

Yes. LOU said it has something to do with starting the 707 without External Power or Air. In real life, you get one shot at starting engine #3, then it is empty and the light comes ON. It remains ON until the bottle is replaced. If you reload the CS 707, the light goes out.

In the CS 707 you can continually start engine #3 regardless of the bottle being empty or not. It would be nice if.... :(

Thanks for the info. I was in fact using engine 3 with out ground power/air. It is strange that CS did not provide an APU on the bird. At least one 707 manual I have found shows APU controls on the FE console.

That question of adding an APU to the 707 has been thrown around the forum several times. If you do a search on it in the 707 forum, you will find out why there isn't an APU. I pretty sure it is because many of the original 707's didn't have them installed. Here is a quote regarding the APU on the 707:

dmb201 wrote on Jun 18th, 2011 at 3:58am:
the reason there is no apu on the 707 is that they weren't in commercial use yet military yes but civilian no because they were to big at the time.

The long and the short of it is...

In the era of this plane it did NOT have an - APU, GPS, INS, VCR, Seat back movie, etc.!

It is what it is - an old school plane!  :o
