Title: How are Frame Rates
Post by Tim Capps on May 21st, 2009 at 5:22am
I loved the old version, and have to admit I'm drooling over this one.  But after the way the 2008 Maddog VC hit my FPS after their FSX port, I'm wondering what frame rates people are getting.

I have a Dell XPS430 (2.5 core 2 quad, 6 gig ram, upgraded power, Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT).  After cleaning up with Alacrity and locking my FPS at 25 via nHancer, I can get a solid 25 at big airports with 60% X Traffic in the another company, but I consider the Maddog's VC unusable due to the frame rate hit (although it works fine with VC disabled and has a great 2-D panel).

I have heard the 727 is not patched up to the level of the 757, so am looking for opinions on frame rates and overall bugginess or lack thereof.

In terms of visuals, this 727 is a bit better of the 757. (in terms of lightning for example)

Regarding the Frame rate, with your config, you'll have not any problems !

Confirm frame rates good, drop-dead gorgeous.

The visual representation of the virtual cockpit and passenger cabin is simply stunning. There are many great add-ons out there, but none have a virtual cockpit that looks as good as the CS 727. My framerates are the same as any of the default FSX aircraft.

I get better framerates than the default 747.

Hello 727 freaks

I cant not share your statements, my frames are low in the VC, is there a option I can turn on/off to get better performance?

Just for comparsion: In the same situation I get following frames with planes:
CS 727 Pro : 21
MD11 another company: 35
MD80 another company:42
DA PA31: 39

So could there be something wrong???

Thanks for any feedback?

Only places where I've had problems was JFK, and that was cause another company's Manhattan X was looming in the distance  ;D

Exterior is silky-smooth and interior is a bit jumpy for me, but my system is (sadly) outdated now...  And it's only 6 months old, lol.

PS- if you have the 757, you should find the 727 a TON better  ;)

That looks about right to me as far as frame rates go.  You don't say where or what stage of flight.  If 21 is the worst you are getting, what's the problem?  Is it not smooth?

I get around 20 at a big airport with 70% Traffic X with the 757.  Works for me.  FPS is just a number.  What matter is how it is performing for you.  MD-80 is going to be sky-high with FPS, but compare the vcs between the two.  I love that MD-80, but everything is a trade-off.

I get around 39 Locked at 40 in the FSX.cfg file...Outside my local scenery addon which kills my frames. All in all I'm satisfied.

Although the rate of tuen in the v/c view needs some adjusting...It takes for ever to turn and draw ( have to hold the buttom for a little while) Before it reacts.

Hi Chaps, just bought the 727-100/200 outfit - very classy.... sadly, hammers frame rates, though. There's all sorts of advice on tweaking it, but on my system, which aint brilliant...

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9300 GS with 256 on board
Gaming graphics 1535 MB Total available graphics memory
Primary hard disk 700GB Free (922GB Total)
Windows 7 32 bit O/S
19" LG LCD panel on DVi at 1400 x 900

1) look at the pre-loaded applications running in the background in the task pane/panel. EXIT those you don't need - you'd be suprised what is running that you don't need.

2) In Windows Vista and 7 especially, dump out of the "aero" themes - very pretty, but chews the performance. Check on the 'net for the best way to do this for your O/S.

On the system above with most graphics sliders on "medium", live weather and full traffic, I get 22-26 FPS on or near the ground and around clouds, 34 - 40 at altitude - set your FPS in FSX to "unlimited" and in your graphics card settings use your equivalent of "let the application decide"... use the Sitka approach mission as your bench mark to twiddle your graphics settings... you might have to live without some of the eye candy like special effects and auto gen scenery, sea, ground and airport traffic. What you really want is extremely high settings for ground texture, detailed clouds, but limit the draw distance, and medium water settings... I think you'll find it pretty enough... on finals, or taxiing, zoom in on your 3D panel a little - showing fewer gauges on the screen will give you a Frame or two extra.

Incidentally, I'm thinking seriously of upgrading my grahics card... recommendations?

I have the same processor, but i have an 8800GT. I don't have problems with framerates.

You should do 2 things:

1) Overclock your processor (Try 3.4 or 3.6, like me)

2) A new graphic card ASAP!

I don't think a new card would really satisfy your woes. FSX is a very processor intensive game. You could slap the very greatest graphics card into your rig and you wouldn't get much of a boost. Long story short, you need a new computer with an Intel i7 if you want to really tear up the virtual skies. However, for your situation if you want a slight boost, get rid of all that traffic!  You only need probably 30%. Also make sure vehicle traffic is off, and turn down autogen density.

I agree with Launchbury and cyberstudio. You need more CPU speed and at least a 512mb video card. I am running:

* WinXP Home SP3 * INTEL Core™ 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz oc'd @ 3.85 GHz * ASUS Maximus Formula Intel X38 * CORSAIR 2GB (2 x 2GB) XMS2 PC2-8500 DDR2 * XigmaTek HDT-S1283 * BFG GeForce GTS 250 OC 1GB * WESTERN DIGITAL 500GB * WESTERN DIGITAL 250GB * ANTECH Nine Hundred Case * PC Power & Cooling S75QB 750W 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply * SAMSUNG SyncMaster™ 931BF LCD Monitor * Saitek X52 * FSX Setup FS-GS *

and with this I don't see any FPS hit at all in FSX with the 727 or the C-130. In fact, they don't cause anymore FPS hit the the default FSX 737.

Looking for some advice. Have recently purchased the 727. Having all sorts of problems. Parked at gate with nothing happening - getting frames rates of 4... Computer a few months old and top of the line. Windows 7 64 bit. Everything else screams on this computer. I can run FSX on max setiings and runs well but no joy with the 727. have downloaded both SP1 & Sp2 for FSX. Have read everything I can find & asked Capt Sim, all to no avail. Appreciate any advice.

Just turn your graphics down. Start with traffic level reduction then auto gen.

I have turned all settings to minimum. doesn't make a scrap of difference. Still get 4 - 4.2 fps sitting at the gate - cold & dark.
Can only presume there is a conflict between the 727 & my computer.
As I said, every other A/C screams along.

Can anybody out there help with this problem. I have tried just about everything. Can't get above 4 fps which makes it unflyable. Very disappointed with response from CS.

Hello! Diver,
there are a couple of things you can try...this issue has not come up in my comp but in other forums i have read about it...try reloading the aircraft ingame with the reset and also another thing is turning off the sound with Q see if that helps in any way. u may also try turning off window reflection for the aircraft thru ACE. other aircraft may scream along in u'r system but it still wouldn't hurt to turn down the graphics just to check if that improves the framerates in any way. do u also have other addon aircrafts in FSX that are close to the graphic complexity of the CS727?

I had the same problem. Just uncheck "High Resolution 3D Cockpit" under the aircraft tab in the graphics settings and that should sort it. My FPS went from 7.5 back up to 35.

Many thanks for the advice. I have tried it all and turned FSX to minimum settings and at best still getting 5fps. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 card and FSX screams at near max settings. No other aircraft gives any problems. Have windows 7, 64 bit.  Can't figure it out.  Cheers  :(

Check out the Captain Sim 767-300 review on Flightsim.com.

In there the reviewer suggested this for NVIDIA users:

"Go to your control panel->Additional options->NVIDIA control panel->go to manage 3d settings->Under 3D app visual simulation scroll down to the bottom and look for Vertical sync->move to the right and hit "Force off" This improved performance in the cabin vastly for me. There still was a bit of lag but nothing as compared to before."

I run ATI so I can't vouch for it.  Worth a try.

Try overclocking you frames by changing:UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=40 ( This is my setting) in the FSX.cfg file.Experiment with it

Post by diver4818 on Jan 22nd, 2010 at 5:19am
Have tried every suggestion. Nothing makes a difference. Whether my FSX is cranked up to maximum settings or dropped to minimum settings, the 727 still stutters along at 4 - 5 fps. I suspect it is the VC. Maybe 64 bit & Windows 7 just don't get along with CS.
Thanks for all the advice. I think I might just have to turf the 727. Have asked CS but they just refer me to the Knowledge base and nothing there which helps. Cheers

Hey Diver4818,

just something I thought about: have you tried disabling the effects?
open the aircraft.cfg file of the 727, find the [SMOKESYSTEM] entries,
and put a // in front of all of them (always backup first).
I haven't had any problem with the 727, but I used to have the same problem with one of the C130 variations on my old pc. never tried this myself though.

Have submitted another ticket to CS. Will advise if they can solve the problems. cheers.

The reply from CS tech support -
'Unfortunately you are the only person reporting this problem with low FPS when the FSM SP2 is installed correctly. Most likely there are some issues with computer/FSX settings.'

I have checked all my settings. Nothing wrong with them. Everything else flies fine. Guess that is the end of that.

Thanks to the community forum for the advice.
