Title: AIrcraft sound problems - tips and tricks
Post by markab on Feb 3rd, 2009 at 1:04am
Hi folks,
I've finally got my 727 installed correctly (?) but I'm not getting any clicks when I throw switches, or an altitude chime when I approach my set altitude. I also don't hear any chime when I turn on the seatbelt or no smoking sign. And I don't hear the landing gear extend/retract. Is anyone else hearing these sounds?  Thanks

Regards,
Mark

So you managed to install it finally so what was wrong? and regarding the sounds you are not the only one no sound for switches and the rest and they are using default sound from 737-800.It's quite cheap to charge over £50.

I've had no trouble with the sounds (still).  All my cockpit and systems sounds seem to function correctly.  The only things that don't make noise are the light dimmer switches, which don't make noise usually.

Are you sure you got everything installed correctly?  I had no trouble with mine... installed and flew.

Hi Patrick,
The installation problem was caused by my own stupidity. I have reinstalled FSX several times in the last month or so trying to get another addon to function properly. And the last time I failed to install sp1 and 2. Once I installed them the CS727 worked fine.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Bob,
So your getting switch sounds? Are you using FSX sp2 with or without acceleration? Thanks for your input.

Regards,
Mark

I don't have these sounds either -- nothing for landing gear, any of the switches or any altitude alerts beeps for the altidude you dial into that gauge.  I am left wondering if there is something wrong with my install or whether they just aren't there.  Could Captain Sim respond as to what sounds we should hear?

Guys... To fix this issue, go to your FSX main directory, then, Captain_Sim\727...

There is a "sound" file...

Edit and change "SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=1" to "SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=0"

I don't know if you guys have the CS 757 but it has the same issue and that's the way you fix both airplanes cockpit sounds...

Title: Re: Cockpit sounds missing?
Post by Bob Markey on Feb 3rd, 2009 at 8:15pm
That's an interesting observation FDMBRZ79... I have slew key unassigned in my sim, I have no need for it, especially since it seems to mess up my FSPassengers flights if I hit it accidentally while chatting on an FSHost server.

marakab, I do get switch sounds on everything except the light dimmers, as to be expected (with the exception of the radio lights next to the rudder trim, which are not actually tied to any lights, this one "click click clicks" as you increase it.

FSX SP2 w/o Acceleration.

I did run into an interesting issue last night with the 727 though, after changing a view suddenly I had zero sound inside the cockpit.  Changing to exterior view, I had engine sounds, and switching back to cockpit my sounds returned.  This happened a couple times in this flight.  Only time I've had sound issues on the 727 at all.

If it recurs, I will use FDMBRZ79's suggestion of the SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=0 trick.

Hi fdmbrz79
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I still can't hear any of the sounds in the "sound" folder being played in MSFS. I filed a support ticket with CS approx. 24h ago but I'm still waiting to hear back from them. Hopfully it will be a simple fix.

Bob thanks for your feedback too.

Regards,
Mark

I just fixed my missing cockpit sounds by using this fix I've copied and pasted from the 757 forum:                                                       First, make sure you have the file 'msvcr71.dll' in your FSX folder.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X
It's on your computer somewhere already, search for it.

Bingo!  Thanks for your suggestion Michael. It turns out I didn't have this dll file anywhere on my computer? I did however find it on the internet. After downloading and installing it I got my cockpit sounds working  :)

Mark

Just installed the 2.1 patch. In the 2.00 version I had the same issue with no cockpit sounds.  Using the suggestion of changing the slew setting in the sound.cfg file worked to fix it.  However, in the 2.1 version it does not appear to be fixing my problem.

Any ideas?

Title: Continuous APU sound
Post by David Zill on Jun 7th, 2009 at 7:15am
Been searching through the forums, some people have brought up the issue that the APU sound doesn't turn off when the APU is turned off. Is there a fix yet?

Title: Re: Continuous APU sound
Post by VFR Reviews on Jun 7th, 2009 at 6:08pm
That's odd...  I don't get any APU sound right now...

I wonder if there's just something funky with my install since I'm having these problems.   The  727 just got three new high-end awards, so I doubt that everyone has my issues.

Perhaps this could be that I'm running Vista, Captain Sim?

Title: Re: Continuous APU sound
Post by Tyrion on Jun 7th, 2009 at 8:38pm
I have the same problems here, no sounds except engines and flaps.
no apu, no clicks...
The 757 appears to have the same problem sometimes,
so I tried the fixes mentioned there in the KB and the forum, but no result.
I'm running vista.
I don't know if these problems are related, no APU or non-stop APU sound,
but I hope all problems get fixed soon!

There are just too many versions of windows going around, XP 32 bit, XP 64 bit, all the vistas and windows 7. I am thinking there are compatibility issues because of this, this is why some people have minimal problems, and other people like me who run xp 64 bit are having several issues. not one of my captainsim aircraft can fly an ILS, and there are several sound issues. I hate to say it, but I am losing my patients, because my P*M*D*G* MD-11 performs perfectly with no bugs or any issues, but the cockpit doesn't look as visually stunning as the captainsim aircraft. I just wish the bugs will get fixed. CS aircraft look and sound good, and could very well be the very best addons if the bugs get fixed.

I agree about too many OS's- It's just Microsoft trying to make money...  And they still cut ACES  :o

I trust Captain Sim, though- it may take some time, but they do get around to addressing all the issues they can.

Well, I got an answer from Captain Sim at my KB ticket.
It was deleted stating it was already answered (KB# 2930)
Well, I tried each and every fix in that KB, and all combinations of them,
but still no cockpit sounds!!
I hope this gets fixed soon, because this beautiful aircraft really deserves it's sound!!

Well, I tried again today.
Very surprising result when I tried with the Cold and dark saved flight: cockpit sounds worked!!
not surprising however, APU sound keeps playing when APU is switched of...
I then tried again with a free flight startup, no cockpit sounds at all!!
I'll wait and see if this gets resolved in any way...

I am using 64 bit Vista. all sounds are working without any problem except APU. it even continues in game menu after exiting flight until closing FSX completely.

My workaround is never using APU. External power and external Bleed air works just fine in parking area.

Title: Re: Continuous APU sound
Post by aal763 on Jun 13th, 2009 at 7:37pm
same here I use 64 vista.  The only problem with external power and external bleed air is that realistically you would have to start the apu before pushback.  Unless of course you feel like starting your engines at the gate, before pushback.

Good afternoon,

I have read the KB answers regarding cockpit sounds for the 727.  Unfortunately neither of the fixes (installing C++ Redistributable and moving msvcr71.dll to the system32 folder, and cycling through the views) has worked for me.  I still have no clicking sounds, APU sounds, etc.

I run a mid-level system with Vista 64-bit.

Would love to hear from anybody who has resolved this issue or has suggestions.

Hey Jeff,

I also tried the solutions you mentioned without success.
What did work for me (for 727, 757 and 767) was editing the sound.ini file.
go to your FSX root folder/captain_sim/727/
in there, you will find a file called sound.ini.
open that with a text editor (wordpad will do)
and change the value
"SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=1"
to
"SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=0"

I hope it helps, it did the trick for me with all airliners from CS.

Tyrion,

Thanks for the excellent idea.  Unfortunately still no go for me.  Oddly the sound files all work and seem to be in the right spot.  Guess i'll have to wait until the next patch.

Same problem. I tryed to copy dll, change all as wrotten in sound.ini file, but - no sound in cocpit. Sys is a Win 7 X64. I think, give up. It`s impossible to fix that problem, and as i see, that bug is not only a 727 - it`s a serail bug for all of Capitan Sim product`s, and is no a difference what a version number of aircraft you have...

This is how I fixed my sound issues with the 727 2.3 update:-

Markoz wrote on Dec 26th, 2009 at 12:45pm:
I had no pilot/flight attendant messages working. So to fix this I got the Captain_Sim.p721.P15.CAB file from the 727-100 v2.2 Panel folder and replaced the v2.3 one. They now work!

I got the other sounds working by changing the SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=1 to SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=0 in the sound.ini file

I hope this helps.

I loaded the 727 - no sounds.  Then I loaded the Capt Sim 757 aircraft and then loaded the 727 - and the sounds suddenly were there.  Have no idea how that happened but it worked after that.

Go figure.

Brian -

The 757 might not have (directly) had anything to do with it.  I have found that I don't get sounds unless I reload the 727 - no other aircraft required.

If you are curious, next time you find that you have no 727 cockpit sounds, reload the aircraft (or 'reset' the flight) and see if the sounds come back.  They have come back for me every time.

It is a head scratcher though! I think this kind of thing will be the norm as Windows continues to evolve but FSX is frozen in time.

You are right - I just have to reload the 727 and all is well.  The only issues I have remaining I can solve by workarounds - and, beside, being forced to fly by hand isn't such a bad thing with an old iron-knuckle aircraft like this one.  Get to brush up on my airmanship.

It is unfortunate that this sound problem still exist after editing the sound file... The only way for the sounds to work is reloading the aircraft.
Maybe there will be an update soon? :-[

I bought the 2.2 version and now updated to the 2.3 versionand neither of them have any sound in the cockpit (including pilot and flight attendant messages). I remember I had the same problem with the Captain 757 and finally someone provided the forum with a new sound file that WORKS. Can someone from Captain Sim give us the right file that makes all sounds work?

Hi Tim.

Even after upgrading my computer, everything is the same as it was before. So the same fixes that were needed before, are still needed now. In other words, no changes. A reload of the 727 and my sounds work. This also applies to all my Captain Sim products that I own. Have you tried opening the 727-100 Cleared for takeoff (KSEA) with FSX? In other words, go to your Documents/Flight Simulator X files and double clicking on the file. My sounds in the 727 work right from the start without the need to reload the plane.

Have you installed any new FSX addons in recent times that might have had an affect on the CS727? After reading up on the few issues that happened to you when you got your new computer, I was worried I might suffer similar issues. As it turned out, it is if I am still using my old computer. Of course my upgrade makes FSX run really nicely now.

"A: Sometimes custom sound initialization might not work properly on some systems. If you experience some problems with the custom sound please try to reload an aircraft (Alt-A-Enter-Enter) and\or cycle through all basic views spot-vc-2D-spot (S).
Also please make sure msvcr71.dll is present at your system at C:\Windows\system32 folder. If this is not the case you need to download latest Visual Studio C++ Redistributable Package from Microsoft Download Center and move msvcr71.dll into C:\Program Files\Windows\system32 folder.

If this does not help - please try the following tips which were reported by some customers to be helpful:
1. Copy the msvcr71.dll file you put to C:\Program Files\Windows\system32 folder into [Microsoft Flight Simulator X Root Folder].
2. Go to [Microsoft Flight Simulator X Root Folder]\Captain_Sim\767 folder. Open the sound.ini file with any text editor, find string
SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=1
and change the value to
SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=0
Save the file"

Hi guys.

Try this. Go to Options, Settings, Control. Select the Buttons/Keys Tab. Scroll down to the entry that says Aircraft (reload) and then select New Assignment. I use CTRL+SHIFT+R (in my FSX it was unused). That's it. Now all I need to do is press my keyboard shortcut and it reloads. None of this ALT, Aircraft, Select Aircraft followed by ENTER when the list shows up (ALT, A, A, ENTER). I hardly notice the reload because it happens so much faster than using the Menu method.

Hope this helps.

PLease be carefull  where you download  "msvcr71.dll file.It6 can be a BAD file, but you will not realize. Therefore I become suspicion, after all fix Cs Support  items   exhausted.
I downloaded  free from "DLL-files.com" to desktop unzipped and copy/pases to C:\windows\SysWOW64 (if you have w7 64) or

It did work me , I hope it will work for you also.

I redownloaded my "msvcr71.dll from the microsoft.com official web and installed into my win7 Ultimate 32 sys; That didn't help.

What is the "msvcr71.dll.it6?..."it6" ??...

Maybe I'm naive I wouldn't have thought that a file directly downloaded form the MS Official site would be BAD as you say here? Maybe I have a lot to learn about computers and the net...Yet!?

Would you advice to download from "DLL-Files.com" would do the trick?
